VAT and percentage calculator
A VAT calculator that works in both directions: enter a net amount and get the VAT and the total, or enter a total that already includes VAT and see how much of it is tax and how much is left. The default rate is Israel's 18%, and any other rate can be typed in. Beside it, a percentage calculator: a percent of a number, what percent one number is of another, the percentage change between two values, and a price after a discount. Everything runs in the browser, with no server and nothing sent anywhere.
What is the VAT rate in Israel?
18% since 1 January 2025. From October 2015 to the end of 2024 it was 17%, which is why the calculator offers that rate too, for older invoices. In Eilat most transactions are VAT-exempt.
How do you add VAT to an amount?
Multiply by 0.18 for the tax, or by 1.18 for the total. 1,000 ₪ before VAT is 180 ₪ of tax and 1,180 ₪ in total.
How do you extract VAT from a total?
Divide the total by 1.18 to get the net amount; the difference is the VAT. The
common mistake is multiplying the total by 0.18, which overstates the tax: VAT is 18%
of the net amount, not of the total. Out of a total, the VAT share is
18 / 118, about 15.25%.
How do you work out a percentage change?
Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by
100: (new − old) ÷ old × 100. Going from 1,000 to 1,250 is a 25% rise,
but 1,250 back to 1,000 is a 20% drop, because the base has changed.
